Twenty minutes north of CTH’s location, there is a mountain nicknamed the Widowmaker. It is recognized as one of the best slope soaring hills in the country. We named this great design after the mountain. The name also might suggest your wife might wonder where you are after you get one. See the video below.....
The Widowmaker has a thinner airfoil than the Assassin to increase performance and glide. The wing cores and elevons are cut from 100% EPP foam and reinforced with a flat carbon spar, extreme tape, shock cord and laminate so it is still a durable long lasting design. The battery and radio are laid flat in the EPP foam wing which acts as a shock absorber to protect them. It is capable of great aerobatics and a high roll rate.
With or without a motor, the Widowmaker has an ultra thin, low drag airfoil for high lift and increased penetration. This wing will soar like no other, and with a motor it accelerates well and requires very little throttle to keep moving around. EPP foam is durable but diffuses light well so an LED light strip makes the whole wing shine. It is one of my favorite night flyers.
We intentionally designed this plane to fly with inexpensive motors, speed controls and low cost metal gear servos to help you get more out of your hobby budget.
When built light with a flying weight (AUW) of around 17 oz it will go straight up and has a flight speed of about 15-75 mph with the recommended motor. It is designed to fly with a large prop and lower RPM to make it quieter and neighbor friendly.
